Contact Sheet

Pictures taken from Jan. 8th to the 12th. |
This is my contact sheet for the blur project. We had to intentionally make motion blur. I found this project to be challenging at times, but overall the pictures turned out neat. I made use of going to my brother's basketball game and at half time I thought to myself "This would be perfect for intentional blur pictures!" All of these turned out and I printed 2 of them.
Hello!
This was my first print for this project. I did a self portrait and I had to set it up in a certain way with lights and a tripod. Once I set it up, I pressed the self-timer button quickly and got into position. I rapidly began to wave my hand as if saying "Hello!" to someone. I look very eager in this picture, but I believe it adds character.
Hanging on
For this picture I asked my brother to swing back and forth as fast as he could to create the motion blur. His feet are blurry and his body isn't, even though it was moving. I like that there isn't too much motion blur. I enjoy the semblance it creates as if he is hanging on for dear life. I really like the expression of him looking up because I think it is what gives the picture personality. Another aspect I like is that his body stands out because of his black jacket against the light background. One thing I am quite pleased with in the background is that it has leading lines which lead your eye to the main subject. That is one technique I incorporated again and helps with the composition of this photo.
Let's Run
To make this picture I used the panning technique. I followed my subject, Miranda, while she ran to create the blurry background, yet she is pretty much in focus. Thank you Miranda for being a lovely model! This technique was probably the hardest thing I learned in photo this semester, and I am glad this picture turned out!
Free Throw
This was at my brother's basketball game, like I said before. The only thing that is blurry is the basketball. I like how the shooter's form is freeze framed at that moment. I love the composition of this picture with the shooter and the hoop in opposite corners of the third's rule. One extra touch I enjoy very much is the older man looking back to see the shot and the expression on his face.
"BHS" Fast Break
My favorite part of this picture is the background. I really like how Barlow High School designed their bleachers with their initials, so when they aren't being used this is what one sees. If you look closely the only things blurred slightly are the two boys' (closest to the camera) feet and arms. I like the look of desperation the "Barlow" boy has in chasing the boy with the ball. This picture has a lot of emotion and action in it.
